Geographical Institute
The Geographical Institute became an academic institute in 1951 from the scientific workshop of the Geographical Library and Map Library. This enabled, first in the form of a research group and then, from 1967, a research institute, the carrying out of organised, regular and increasingly intensive academic geographical research in Hungary. This step, which was also significant by international standards, created an organisational framework which, for half a century, has played a decisive research, research organisation and management role in geographical research as a disciplinary base institute. Our Institute has extensive international links and conducts joint research with a number of partner institutions abroad.
